Night at the Museum is that rare family movie that actually delivers on its premise—museums are boring until they're NOT, and then it's dinosaurs playing fetch and tiny cowboys lassoing your phone. Ben Stiller brings his signature frantic energy to a divorced dad trying to prove himself, and the father-son arc gives it just enough heart to balance the slapstick chaos.
It's not going to teach your kid actual history (Teddy Roosevelt did not, in fact, ride a horse through Central Park every night), but it might make them actually excited about your next museum trip, which is worth something. The action is loud and chaotic but mostly comedic—more 'running away from a T-Rex skeleton' than genuinely scary.
At nearly 20 years old, it holds up better than you'd expect. The effects are fine, the humor is still funny, and it hasn't aged into unwatchability like some mid-2000s family fare. Solid choice for a family movie night when you want something everyone can enjoy without anyone getting traumatized or bored to tears.
