Let's be clear: New Girl is not for kids. At all. Despite Jess's quirky, childlike enthusiasm and the show's pastel color palette, this is a sitcom about adults navigating hookup culture, hangovers, and relationship dysfunction in their late 20s.
That said, if YOU (the parent) want something funny to watch after bedtime, it's solid comfort TV. The characters are endearing, the friendships feel genuine, and there's actual emotional growth over seven seasons. It's the kind of show that was everywhere in the early 2010s—before streaming fractured our shared culture into a million niches.
But for your kids? Hard pass until they're legitimately older teens (think 17+). And even then, you might cringe at some of the dated gender dynamics and the fact that literally every social situation involves alcohol. It's not harmful for adults, but it's not modeling anything you'd want tweens or young teens absorbing.
The WISE score reflects what it is: entertaining adult comedy with minimal educational value and content that's definitely not safe for younger viewers.
