Need for Speed Heat is a perfectly serviceable arcade racer for teens who dig car culture and high-speed chases. It's not breaking new ground—the day/night mechanic is clever but the gameplay is standard Need for Speed fare. The illegal street racing theme and corrupt cop narrative aren't exactly wholesome, but it's all clearly fictional and no worse than Fast & Furious movies.
The game landed in 2019 and already feels a bit dated compared to newer racing titles, but it's still playable and fun for the target demographic. If your 12-year-old is into cars and can handle some attitude and mild swearing, this is fine. Just don't expect any life lessons beyond "customizing cars is cool" and "high risk sometimes equals high reward."
Bottom line: It's a decent time-killer for teens, but there are richer gaming experiences out there if you're looking for something more meaningful.
