Nature Cat is exactly what you want from PBS Kids: educational without being a slog, wholesome without being saccharine, and genuinely trying to get kids interested in the actual outdoors. The premise—a house cat with no instincts trying to be a nature expert—is clever enough to keep it entertaining while teaching real science concepts.
It's not going to blow anyone's mind, and the pacing is definitely PBS-gentle (read: slower than most modern kids' shows). But for preschool and early elementary, this is a solid choice that might actually inspire a nature walk instead of another hour of screen time. That's a win.
The 2015 launch means the animation style is modern enough to not feel dated, and being on PBS means zero commercials or manipulative content. If you've got a 5-year-old who needs to learn that trees aren't just obstacles in Minecraft, this is your show.
