This is exactly what you want from a National Geographic kids book: gorgeous photos, accurate info presented simply, and enough variety to keep little ones engaged. The author knows early childhood development, and it shows—the pacing is right, the facts are digestible, and the questions actually make kids think.
It's not going to win awards for narrative creativity (it's a reference book, after all), but it does its job beautifully. Kids who are into ocean life will return to this again and again. Even kids who aren't ocean-obsessed will find something to love—penguins! sea otters! baby seals!
The only real downside is that it's from 2013, but ocean animals haven't changed much in the last decade, so it holds up fine. A solid addition to any home library, especially if you're trying to balance screen time with something educational that doesn't feel like homework.
