Kevin Smith tried to resurrect He-Man for a new generation, and the result is... complicated. Critics loved it (95% on RT), but audiences were split down the middle (52%), which tells you this isn't your parents' Saturday morning cartoon—it's darker, more serialized, and makes creative choices that angered some hardcore fans.
For families with 10-12 year olds who like fantasy action, this could work as a co-watching experience. The animation is legitimately beautiful, the character development is deeper than the original, and themes of courage and teamwork are solid. But the frequent combat, mild profanity, and occasional innuendo mean this isn't background viewing for younger siblings.
The real question: is this actually enjoyable for modern kids who don't have 80s nostalgia? Probably not as much as parents hope. The 5.6 IMDb rating suggests even with the upgraded animation and storytelling, this doesn't quite land. If your tween is into fantasy action and you want to share your childhood memories, give it a shot. But if they're not immediately hooked by episode one, don't force it—there are better family fantasy shows out there.
