Marvel United is that rare licensed game that actually works—it's not just slapping Spider-Man on generic mechanics. The combo system where your card chains with the previous player's is satisfying, and truly cooperative games (where you win or lose together) are gold for family dynamics.
The 14+ rating is nonsense. If your 8-year-old can read and follow basic instructions, they're fine. The game won Best Family Game for a reason—it's accessible without being condescending.
The main annoyance? Setup time rivals playtime. You'll spend 10 minutes placing miniatures and tokens for a 25-minute game. But once you're playing, it moves fast and feels good when you pull off a combo.
This won't replace Pandemic or Forbidden Island for serious co-op gamers, but for Marvel-loving families who want something more engaging than Monopoly? Solid choice. Just maybe skip the 47 Kickstarter expansions unless you have a storage unit and a trust fund.
