Mario Kart Tour is what happens when Nintendo's beloved racing franchise gets the free-to-play mobile treatment. The core racing is fine—cartoony, colorful, no objectionable content—but it's wrapped in predatory monetization that constantly pushes kids toward in-app purchases through gacha mechanics and FOMO-inducing events.
The gameplay itself is watered down compared to console versions, with simplified controls that remove much of the skill and strategy. It's Mario Kart on autopilot, literally. Some parents love it as a 'better than most mobile games' option, and Reddit users rate it highly for a mobile game (9/10), but that's grading on a curve.
If you don't own a Switch, fine, this works for car rides. But set up parental controls immediately to block purchases, or you'll find $100 in charges for virtual pipes. If you DO own a Switch, there's zero reason to download this when Mario Kart 8 Deluxe exists.
