Major League is the 'anti-Sandlot.' It’s sweaty, cynical, and loud, but it’s also one of the most honest and hilarious depictions of baseball ever put to film. It avoids the sugary-sweet tropes of many family sports movies, opting instead for a story about washouts and weirdos who find a reason to care again.
For parents, the main hurdle is the R rating. This isn't a movie you put on for a 7-year-old’s birthday party. It’s a movie you watch with your teenager who thinks they're too cool for 'kids' sports movies. The profanity is constant, and the humor is crude, but the heart of the story—overcoming low expectations through sheer spite and teamwork—is surprisingly solid.
