Legally Blonde is that rare early-2000s rom-com that actually holds up because its core message—don't let anyone put you in a box—still resonates. Yes, Elle starts out chasing a guy to law school, which is objectively a terrible reason to pursue higher education, but the movie knows that and makes her growth the whole point.
The PG-13 content is real but manageable: some innuendo, a harassment subplot that's handled appropriately, and the general vibe of college party culture. Nothing shocking for a teen, but maybe a bit much for younger kids who won't get the context.
What makes this work for a WISE list is that Elle is genuinely smart, kind, and hardworking—she succeeds because she studies and uses her unique knowledge, not because she magically transforms into someone else. The pink stays. The chihuahua stays. The bend-and-snap stays. And she still wins the case.
It's dated in that early-2000s way (the fashion, the flip phones, the casual homophobia that thankfully doesn't land anymore), but teens still watch and enjoy this. It's funny, it's quotable, and it makes you root for Elle. Solid choice for a family movie night with tweens and teens.
