Iron Man is the rare superhero origin story that actually holds up—it's still fun, the effects work, and RDJ's performance carries even the slower moments. Yes, Tony starts as kind of a jerk (rich playboy who profits from war isn't exactly aspirational), but that's the point. His journey from selfish to selfless is the whole arc, and it's genuinely well-done.
The cave scenes are intense—torture, terrorism, violence—so this isn't for sensitive younger kids. But for 10+ who can handle typical Marvel action, it's solid. The film sneaks in real themes about weapons ethics, corporate responsibility, and using your privilege for good, all while keeping things entertaining.
Seventeen years later, it's still watchable, which is more than you can say for most mid-2000s blockbusters. If your family is Marvel-curious, this is a strong starting point. Just be ready to explain why building an arc reactor in your garage isn't actually feasible.
