Look, Iron Man 2 is fine. It's not terrible, but it's not great either. It's the MCU movie you watch because you're doing a marathon and you need to understand why War Machine looks different now and how Black Widow showed up.
The action is competent, the humor lands sometimes, and Robert Downey Jr. is always watchable. But the film is overstuffed with franchise setup—introducing characters and plotlines that won't pay off until later movies—at the expense of telling its own story. The villain (Mickey Rourke's Whiplash) is underdeveloped, and the whole thing feels like it's treading water until The Avengers.
The alcohol subplot is actually interesting but handled clumsily—Tony's self-destructive behavior is serious but often played for laughs. It's worth discussing with teens if you watch.
Bottom line: If your kid loves Marvel, they'll watch it and be fine. If they're not already invested, skip it and go straight to Iron Man 3 or just jump to Avengers. This is MCU homework, not must-see cinema.
