Look, this is a well-made gothic horror film with strong performances and real atmospheric beauty. Tom Cruise is surprisingly good as Lestat, Brad Pitt does his tortured-soul thing effectively, and Kirsten Dunst steals the show as the child vampire Claudia.
But let's be clear: this is absolutely not for kids or young teens. The violence is graphic, the themes are dark and existential, and the whole child-vampire-seducing-and-murdering-adults thing is deeply disturbing. Common Sense Media says 17+ and they're right.
For adults or older teens who can handle mature horror? It's a solid film with substance. The philosophical questions about immortality and humanity are real, and the production is beautiful. But by modern standards, the pacing is glacial. It's a 1994 literary adaptation that takes its time, and today's teens raised on MCU quips and rapid cuts may struggle to stay engaged.
If you've got a 17-year-old who loves gothic fiction, Anne Rice, or atmospheric horror, this could work. Everyone else should wait or skip entirely.
