Here's the thing: I Am Not Okay With This had real potential. The premise is solid—telekinetic teen dealing with grief, identity, and an unrequited crush on her best friend while trying not to accidentally explode things with her mind. It's moody, it's weird, it tackles LGBTQ+ themes naturally, and it uses superpowers as a legitimately interesting metaphor for feeling out of control during adolescence.
But Netflix cancelled it after one season, ending on a massive cliffhanger with a literal head explosion and zero resolution. So you're investing in a story that goes nowhere. For older teens who can handle mature content and don't mind incomplete narratives, there's value here in the themes and representation. But the graphic violence, dark tone, likely strong language and sexual content, plus that frustrating non-ending make this a tough recommend.
If your teen is 16+, loves dark coming-of-age stories, and can accept that this is essentially a well-made pilot for a show that never got made, go for it. Everyone else? Maybe skip the inevitable disappointment.
