If your kid is a horror completionist, The Amityville Horror is a required text. It’s the granddaddy of the 'haunted house on a budget' subgenre. That said, it hasn't aged perfectly.
By 2026 standards, it’s a bit of a slog. The scares are foundational but rarely terrifying to a modern eye. It’s more of a moody period piece about a family falling apart than a high-octane thrill ride. Watch it for the history, but maybe keep the remote handy for the slower stretches.
