Look, if your kid is obsessed with Barbie and you need 15 minutes of peace, this app will do the job. It's colorful, it's sparkly, and kids can dress up digital dolls in mermaid tails and fairy wings.
But here's the thing: the Hello Barbie brand is a privacy nightmare. The connected doll (a separate product, but same brand) literally records your kid's conversations and uploads them to servers with documented security holes. Even though this app doesn't appear to include those voice features, the brand association is toxic, and the app itself has in-app purchases and advertising aimed at young children.
Plus, there's just not much here. It's a shallow dress-up experience that reinforces appearance-focused values and keeps kids in the Barbie commercial ecosystem. No problem-solving, no real creativity beyond picking from preset options, no learning.
If you're going to let your kid use this, disable in-app purchases immediately, supervise closely, and maybe have a conversation about why apps try to get us to watch ads. But honestly? There are way better creative apps that don't come with this much baggage. Skip this one unless you're already all-in on the Barbie universe and willing to manage the risks.
