Get Smart is the definition of "fine." It's a 2008 remake of a 1960s TV show that nobody was really asking for, starring Steve Carell doing his lovable-bumbler routine in a spy context. The movie isn't offensive or inappropriate—it's safe, mildly amusing, and completely forgettable.
The critical reception tells the story: 51% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics means it's right at the line between "eh" and "meh." Audiences were slightly more generous at 67%, probably because Carell has charm and there are a few decent action sequences. But a 2.9/5 on Letterboxd? That's "I watched this on a plane and it passed the time" territory.
For families with 10-13 year olds who want something spy-themed without the intensity of actual James Bond, this works fine. It's got enough slapstick to keep tweens engaged and the violence is cartoonish. But there are so many better family action-comedies out there—this one just doesn't stand out in any meaningful way. It's not bad enough to avoid, but it's not good enough to seek out either.
