If your kid is obsessed with anime but you want to steer them away from the darker, more 'edgy' modern stuff, Futari wa Pretty Cure is a fantastic middle ground. It’s got the high-octane action of a shonen battle show but keeps the emotional core centered on a healthy, supportive female friendship.
Just be prepared for the 'old TV' look. It hasn't been remastered for modern wide-screen displays, so there will be black bars on the sides. If they can get past the dated visuals, they'll find a show that has way more heart and actual 'punch' than the average toy-commercial cartoon.
