This is the movie you put on when you want your kids to watch something actually good—like, film-school good—that's still technically for families. Wes Anderson adapted Roald Dahl's book into a stop-motion masterpiece that's visually stunning, emotionally intelligent, and genuinely funny if you appreciate deadpan humor.
The catch? It's not for everyone. Younger kids will be bored by the pacing and miss the jokes. Sensitive kids might find the peril too intense. But for the right age range (roughly 7+), this is gold: a heist movie with heart, gorgeous craftsmanship that might inspire budding filmmakers, and themes about identity and family that actually resonate.
It's also a great litmus test for whether your kid is ready for more sophisticated storytelling. If they're into it, you've got a whole world of quirky, smart cinema to explore together. If they're checking their imaginary watch 20 minutes in, save it for a few years and stick with Pixar.
