Detective Pikachu is that rare video game adaptation that doesn't make you want to walk into traffic. It's genuinely entertaining, visually impressive, and has enough heart to justify the runtime.
Ryan Reynolds as a caffeine-addicted, amnesiac Pikachu works way better than it should, and the buddy-cop dynamic with Justice Smith's Tim is sweet without being cloying. The mystery plot is engaging enough to keep kids interested, and the Pokémon world-building is legitimately creative—Ryme City where humans and Pokémon live together without battles is a fresh take.
The emotional core around Tim processing his father's death adds surprising depth, though it might be heavy for younger or more sensitive kids. Action sequences are PG-appropriate but have some peril and a few jump scares. Overall, it's a solid family movie night pick if you've got Pokémon fans in the house—just maybe not for the kindergarten crowd.
