Demon Slayer is a phenomenon for good reason—the animation is movie-quality, the story hooks you, and the emotional beats land. But let's be clear: this is violent. Not 'cartoon bonk on the head' violent. We're talking decapitations, blood, body horror, and a family massacre in episode one.
The saving grace is that the violence serves the story rather than being gratuitous, and Tanjiro is one of the most genuinely kind protagonists in recent anime. He's fighting literal demons but maintains his humanity and empathy throughout. That's worth something.
Common Sense Media says 17+, IMDb says 16+, and honestly that feels right. Your mature 15-year-old who's into anime? Probably fine. Your 11-year-old who loves Avatar? Not yet. This is a conversation piece with older teens about grief, family, and what we're willing to fight for—but only if they can handle the intense action that comes with it.
