Cluster had a moment in 2013 when "private social networks" felt revolutionary. The problem? That moment passed a decade ago.
The concept is still solid: create invite-only spaces to share photos with grandparents, close friends, or your college roommates without broadcasting to the entire internet. No ads, no algorithm, no strangers commenting on your kid's birthday party. For families wanting to escape the toxicity of traditional social media, that's genuinely appealing.
But here's the thing—Google Photos shared albums and iCloud Family Sharing now do everything Cluster does, but better, with actual ongoing support and integration with the photos already on your phone. Cluster is the app equivalent of a Blockbuster Video: it made sense at the time, but we've moved on.
If you're already using it and it works for your family, fine. But if you're starting fresh in 2025? There are simply better, more modern, more secure options that don't involve trusting a 12-year-old app with your family memories.
