Here's the thing: Catching Hell is an objectively excellent documentary. That 100% on Rotten Tomatoes isn't a fluke—it's well-crafted, thoughtful, and tells an important story about how quickly we turn people into villains.
But it's also a total bummer. You're watching a man's life get destroyed over a baseball play, and it's genuinely upsetting. The lessons are valuable—about empathy, mob mentality, and how sports fandom can turn toxic—but this isn't family movie night material unless your family enjoys heavy social commentary.
For older teens interested in sports, psychology, or social dynamics, it's enriching and thought-provoking. For everyone else? It's a well-made documentary about a depressing chapter in sports history that most people outside Chicago have moved on from. Worth watching if you're into it, but don't expect to feel good afterward.
