Castle of Illusion is a perfectly serviceable Disney platformer that does exactly what it promises: Mickey jumps through pretty levels to rescue Minnie from a witch. It's safe, it's wholesome, and younger kids will enjoy the colorful worlds and treasure hunting.
But let's be real—this is a 1990 game at heart, and it shows. Even the 2013 HD remake can't fully modernize the sluggish controls and short runtime. It's fine for a weekend afternoon with a 7-year-old who's curious about classic gaming, but it's not going to compete with modern platformers for long-term engagement.
If you've got a young Disney fan ready to try their first real platformer, this is a gentle on-ramp. Just manage expectations: it's charming but dated, and they'll probably finish it in one sitting.
