Black Lotus wants to be a worthy addition to the Blade Runner universe, and it has the right ingredients: amnesia mystery, cyberpunk aesthetics, philosophical questions about identity and humanity. But the middling scores across the board (6.4 IMDb, 64% audience, 61 Metacritic) tell the real story—it's just okay.
The violence is substantial and the tone is relentlessly dark, making it inappropriate for anyone under 14. For older teens who are already into anime and sci-fi, it might scratch an itch, especially if they're Blade Runner fans. But be warned: this isn't essential viewing, and the 13-episode commitment might feel like a slog if you're not already invested in the universe.
The philosophical themes about memory and identity are there, but they take a backseat to revenge-plot action sequences. It's entertaining enough if you go in with modest expectations, but there are better anime and better sci-fi shows out there if you're just looking for quality teen content.
