Look, I get it—the internet is terrifying, and Bark promises to be your digital bodyguard. But here's the thing: it doesn't really work that well.
Reddit parents aren't just mildly annoyed—they're calling it 'miserable' and describing the software as full of holes. When a safety app can't reliably deliver safety, that's a problem. Add in the fact that it creates a surveillance relationship rather than teaching actual digital literacy, and you've got a tool that might cause more family friction than it prevents online danger.
If you're going to monitor your kids' digital lives (and that's a personal choice with no judgment here), at least pick something that functions consistently. Better yet, consider whether teaching critical thinking, having ongoing conversations, and building trust might be more effective than reading their DMs. Bark wants to be the easy button for digital parenting, but there isn't one.
