Apple Arcade is what mobile gaming should have been all along: a curated library of actual games without the psychological warfare of free-to-play mechanics. For families drowning in Roblox microtransactions or fighting with kids over in-app purchase requests, this is genuinely refreshing.
The value proposition is straightforward—one monthly fee, unlimited access to 200+ games, no additional costs. Common Sense Media and parent communities consistently praise it as one of the safer gaming options for kids. The games themselves range from excellent (several award-winning indie titles) to fine (casual time-fillers), but none of them are trying to manipulate your kid into spending money.
The main limitation is that you need to be in the Apple ecosystem, and the selection for very young kids (under 7) is thinner than for older children. But if you've got elementary through middle school kids with iPads or iPhones, this is probably the best $7/month you can spend on their entertainment. It's not going to replace a good book or outdoor play, but as far as screen time goes, this is the good stuff.
