Look, the Amazon Shopping app does what it's designed to do: make buying stuff absurdly easy. For adults who need to restock diapers at 11pm or track a package, it's fine—utilitarian and efficient.
But from a family wellness perspective? This thing is a consumption engine with zero educational value. It's not teaching kids to budget, compare prices thoughtfully, or delay gratification. It's teaching them that anything they want is two taps away, and that's a terrible lesson.
The extensive permissions are also concerning—why does a shopping app need your microphone and location? The answer is data collection and targeted advertising, which is exactly what you don't want normalized for kids.
If your kids need access to Amazon (maybe teens buying their own stuff with gift cards), set up Amazon Kids Parent Dashboard with strict controls. Otherwise, keep this app locked down and off-limits. There are approximately zero developmental benefits and plenty of ways this can go sideways.
