Actively Learn is a rare 'educational' tool that actually respects how brains learn to read. Instead of just throwing a PDF at a kid and hoping for the best, it breaks the text up with the kind of scaffolding a good teacher would provide in person. It’s not a 'game' and it isn't 'fun' in the traditional sense, but it is a highly effective way to build the language comprehension strands of literacy.
From a safety perspective, it's about as clean as it gets. No ads, no weird social hooks, and a clear focus on privacy. The only real downside is that it adds more hours to a kid's 'digital debt.' If your kid is already staring at a Chromebook for six hours a day, adding more screen-based reading might feel like a slog, even if the content itself is high-quality.
