A Goofy Movie holds up better than you'd expect for a 30-year-old direct-to-video Disney release (well, it got a limited theatrical run). The father-son relationship is genuinely touching without being saccharine, and Max's bratty teenage attitude feels authentic rather than annoying.
The 90s aesthetic is STRONG—Powerline is clearly a mashup of Michael Jackson and Prince, the fashion is peak baggy jeans era, and the animation style screams Saturday morning cartoon. Modern kids might find it visually dated, but the story beats still work.
That said, this isn't a masterpiece. It's a solid family movie with heart, good music, and real lessons about communication and appreciating your parents. Just skip it for kids under 6 (that opening nightmare is no joke), and know that if your kid hasn't hit the 'my parents are SO embarrassing' phase yet, half the movie won't land.
