Look, if your teen is begging to watch a shark movie and you've exhausted the good ones, 47 Meters Down exists. But it's mediocre survival horror that critics found 'meh' and audiences actively disliked (that 35% RT audience score is rough).
The premise is fine—sisters trapped underwater with dwindling oxygen and circling sharks—but the execution is paint-by-numbers, the scares are predictable, and the twist ending landed with a thud for most viewers. It's the kind of movie that feels like it was engineered in a thriller-generator rather than crafted with any real vision.
From a WISE perspective, it's pretty much a wash: sustained terror isn't wholesome, the scenario isn't particularly imaginative, it's definitely not safe for younger viewers, and there's zero enrichment beyond 'don't trust sketchy tour operators.' The 2.5/5 on Letterboxd tells you everything—even genre fans found it underwhelming.
If your 15-year-old wants a shark scare for movie night and you've already watched The Shallows, fine. But don't expect anyone to remember this one fondly. It's forgettable popcorn horror that'll make you anxious for 90 minutes and leave you with nothing to show for it.
