UnEnchanted is a solid entry into the urban fantasy genre that hits the sweet spot between middle-grade and YA. It's not high literature, but it’s a compelling page-turner for kids who have graduated from Percy Jackson and want something with a bit more edge and high school social stakes.
While the 'clumsy girl gets the guy' trope feels a little 2013, the central hook—that the Grimm fairy tales are a sentient curse trying to kill the protagonist—is genuinely fun. It’s an easy win for a kid who likes fantasy but isn't ready for the heavy-duty world-building of Lord of the Rings.
