Look, this isn't going on the family movie night list. The Mission is a serious, adult documentary about John Chau's fatal attempt to bring Christianity to the Sentinelese people, one of the last uncontacted tribes on Earth.
Critics loved it (94% on RT), which suggests it's thoughtfully made and doesn't just lionize Chau as a martyr. But the IMDb score of 6.4 tells you audiences found it... complicated. Because it is. This is a story about good intentions leading to tragedy, about faith crossing into hubris, and about whether we have any right to disturb people who've made it clear they want to be left alone.
For adults interested in documentary filmmaking, missionary work ethics, or indigenous rights, this could be genuinely enriching. It's the kind of film that stays with you and prompts real conversation. But it's also depressing, morally murky, and about a preventable death. Not exactly popcorn entertainment.
Bottom line: thoughtful adults only, and maybe have a glass of wine ready.
