If your kid is obsessed with fantasy but you want them reading something smarter than a generic battle manga, this is it. It’s basically SimCity meets The Lord of the Rings, but with a lot more blue goo and surprisingly thoughtful takes on how to run a country.
While the 'fan service' is definitely present in the illustrations and some dialogue, the actual story is remarkably wholesome in its pursuit of a world where everyone gets along. It's the 'competence porn' of the book world—watching someone be really good at their job (even if that job is being a magical slime) is weirdly satisfying.
