Moana is the rare Disney film that feels both timeless and modern. It's got the classic hero's journey, but swaps the prince for a demigod with self-esteem issues and a girl who just wants to sail. The animation is jaw-dropping, the music is infectious, and the message—know who you are, respect where you come from, and don't let fear keep you small—lands without being preachy.
The scares are real, though. Te Kā is a towering lava demon, and the Kakamora are genuinely unsettling. If your kid freaked out during the bear scene in Brave, proceed with caution. But for most kids 7+, this is a home run: adventurous, funny, and genuinely moving.
It's also refreshing to see a Disney heroine whose arc has nothing to do with romance. Moana's journey is about identity, legacy, and environmental responsibility—themes that resonate in 2025 as much as they did in 2016. Stick around for the post-credits scene; it's silly and perfect.
