Hunter Killer is the definition of 'fine.' It's a submarine movie that exists, has some explosions, and then you forget about it.
The critics hated it (38%), audiences shrugged (67%), and even film nerds on Letterboxd gave it a mediocre 2.9/5. It's not offensively bad—it's just aggressively average. Gerard Butler plays an untested submarine captain who teams up with Navy SEALs to rescue the kidnapped Russian president from a rogue general, and if that sentence made you yawn, you've correctly predicted the entire movie.
For intentional parents: this is rated 15+ for good reason—there's sustained military violence, people dying in combat, and constant tension. It's not graphic or gratuitous, but it's definitely not for middle schoolers. And honestly? Even for older teens, there are way better military thrillers out there. This one's only worth watching if your teen is really into submarines or you've exhausted every other option on a long flight.
