Billy & Billie is a high-wire act that works because it doesn't blink. It takes a premise that sounds like a bad 'step-fantasy' search result and turns it into a legitimate, high-IQ dramedy about two people who are clearly right for each other but totally wrong for their family's Christmas dinner.
It’s not 'safe' in any traditional sense, but it is well-made. If you can get past the initial hurdle of the premise, you’ll find a very human story about the cost of being honest in a world that loves to judge. Just don't watch it with your parents—or your step-siblings.
