This isn't your five-year-old's Batman. Beyond the White Knight is a visually spectacular, narratively dense graphic novel that treats its audience like they've got a brain. It’s the perfect pick for a teen who has outgrown the 'Biff! Pow!' era of comics and wants something that looks like a high-end action movie.
Sean Murphy remains one of the best writer-artists in the game, and his take on Neo-Gotham is arguably more interesting than the original cartoon. It’s heavy on atmosphere, father-son drama, and sleek tech. Just make sure they've at least skimmed the previous two volumes first, or they'll be asking you who the Joker's wife is every five minutes.
