It avoids the 'boring classic' trap by being relentlessly paced. If you can handle a bit of European cheekiness and some cartoonish brawling, it's a fantastic family movie night pick that feels like a big-budget vacation in ancient Egypt.

One of the film's greatest strengths is its refusal to stay in the past. It features a kung-fu battle that parodies The Matrix, a labor strike among the pyramid builders, and a character named Otis who gives a long, philosophical monologue about his life as an elevator operator. These bits fly over the heads of younger kids but make the movie a genuine joy for parents.
If your kids are strong readers, the original French audio with subtitles is the way to go to catch the specific rhythmic wit of the dialogue. However, the English dub is serviceable and makes the slapstick much easier for the 7-10 age bracket to follow without getting bogged down in text.
