This is one of those anime that sounds way more problematic than it actually is. Yes, it's set in demon school with horns and magic, but the execution is surprisingly sweet and wholesome. Iruma is basically the anti-anime-protagonist—he's kind, considerate, and wins through empathy rather than power-ups.
The show has genuine heart and explores belonging, identity, and self-worth in ways that resonate with middle schoolers. That said, it's still anime, so there are occasional fan-service moments and the demon aesthetic that some families won't vibe with.
The 14+ rating feels about right—it's not for elementary kids, but tweens and teens who are into anime will likely find it engaging and far less problematic than many alternatives in the genre. It's got a 7.6 on IMDb for a reason: it's genuinely entertaining with better-than-expected emotional depth.
If your kid is already watching anime, this is actually one of the better options out there. If they're not, this probably isn't the gateway show.
