Look, if you’re looking for a heartwarming tale about a girl and her robot friends, keep walking. This is pure horror for the middle-school set. It’s got body horror, 'Twisted' animatronics that look like they crawled out of a fever dream, and a plot that doesn't pull many punches regarding Charlie’s trauma.
That said, it’s a massive win for reluctant readers. The art is sharp, the pacing is quick, and it actually treats its audience like they can handle a bit of tension. It’s not 'brain rot' like some of the weird UGC content floating around; it’s a well-constructed graphic novel that happens to be about child-snatching mechanical monsters. If they can handle the games, they can handle this.
