The Mad Wife is a searing, uncomfortable, and ultimately rewarding read. It doesn't pull its punches regarding the mental health of new mothers or the claustrophobia of 'perfect' suburban life. It's less of a 'fun' thriller and more of a haunting character study that happens to have a high-stakes mystery attached to it.
If you're in the mood for something light, this isn't it. But if you want a book that respects your intelligence and isn't afraid to go into the dark corners of the human mind, it's one of the strongest releases of the last year.
