Look, this is fine. It's not going to hurt anyone, and if your kid is obsessed with The Lion King, they'll probably enjoy seeing Timon and Pumbaa get their moment. The meta-humor and narrative framing are legitimately clever—for about the first act. Then it becomes clear this is a 77-minute DVD extra stretched into a 'movie.'
The animation quality screams 'direct-to-video 2004,' and while the story has some sweet moments about friendship and belonging, it's mostly just... there. It's comfort food cinema for Lion King fans, not essential viewing. The good news? It's safe, it's wholesome enough, and it won't make you want to claw your eyes out if your kid puts it on repeat.
The bad news? In 2025, with the wealth of high-quality animation available on Disney+, this feels like settling. It's the media equivalent of gas station snacks—technically food, gets the job done, but you could do better.
