Superman: Unbound is a perfectly serviceable DC animated movie that does exactly what it says on the tin: Superman and Supergirl fight Brainiac in a darker, more violent story than you'd get in theaters. The 100% critic score is a bit generous—it's competent, not brilliant—and the 6.5 IMDb rating feels about right.
This is firmly in the 14+ zone. DC's animated movies from this era pushed hard into PG-13 territory with sustained violence and grim atmospheres, and this is no exception. If your teen likes superhero action and can handle intensity, it's a solid rental. If you're looking for family-friendly Superman fun, look elsewhere—this isn't it.
The bigger issue? It's 2013 animation that feels dated, and it's just not memorable enough to seek out unless you're a completist. Watchable for the right age, but there are better superhero options on HBO Max.
