Here's the deal: this movie was essentially the first four episodes of the Clone Wars TV series stitched together and released in theaters, and critics absolutely savaged it. An 18% on Rotten Tomatoes is brutal, and they're not wrong—the dialogue is clunky, the plot is thin, and even the animation looks cheaper than what came later in the series.
If your kid is Star Wars-obsessed and wants to watch everything in chronological order, fine, they can stream it on Disney+. But you should know that even hardcore fans often recommend skipping this theatrical release and jumping straight to the TV series, which is vastly superior in every way.
The action violence is typical Star Wars fare—plenty of lightsaber battles and droid destruction—but it's animated and cartoonish, so it's less intense than the live-action films. Common Sense Media's age 8+ rating feels right for kids who can handle sustained combat sequences.
The one redeeming feature? It introduces Ahsoka Tano, who grows into one of the most beloved characters in Star Wars. But she's much better developed in the show. This movie is a completist's footnote, not a must-watch.
