This is a staple for a reason. National Geographic knows how to hook a kid with a 'scary' subject and pivot immediately into a science lesson. It’s not a narrative masterpiece—it's a fact delivery system—but it’s one of the best ones out there.
It’s the kind of book that ends up dog-eared and covered in crumbs because a kid actually wants to look at it. If you have a kid in kindergarten or first grade who is obsessed with the ocean, this is a no-brainer addition to the shelf.
