Look, Safe House isn't terrible—it's just aggressively mediocre. Denzel elevates every scene he's in, but the script is paint-by-numbers spy thriller stuff we've seen done better in the Bourne films.
The 52% critical score tells you everything: it's watchable but forgettable. The 2.9 Letterboxd rating (out of 5) is particularly damning—that's 'meh' territory from people who actually care about movies.
For parents: this is absolutely not for kids. The 17+ rating is earned with torture scenes, waterboarding, and sustained violence. But honestly? Even for adults, unless you're desperate for background noise while folding laundry, there are much better options on the same streaming services.
It's the kind of movie that was designed to fill a weekend box office slot in February 2012 and has aged like milk since then.
