Renfield is a mess, but it's a moderately entertaining mess if you're an adult who likes horror-comedy and can stomach extreme cartoon violence. Nicolas Cage is having the time of his life as Dracula, and there's a genuinely clever idea here about escaping narcissistic abuse wrapped in vampire mythology.
But let's be real: this is not family viewing. The gore is relentless and over-the-top. People are literally ripped apart on screen every few minutes. The codependency metaphor is decent but gets drowned in blood splatter.
Critics were lukewarm (58%) while audiences were more forgiving (78%), which tracks—this is a "turn your brain off and watch Nicolas Cage be insane" kind of movie. The 6.4 IMDb rating puts it squarely in "fine but forgettable" territory.
For Screenwise purposes: this is adults-only entertainment with minimal enrichment value. If you're looking for something to watch after the kids are in bed and you want campy horror with some workplace-abuse satire, go for it. Otherwise, skip it.
