Paradise has a killer premise—literally selling years of your life—but stumbles in execution. It's the kind of movie that sounds amazing in a pitch meeting and then lands with a thud of 'meh' reviews.
The good: it tackles real questions about inequality, mortality, and what we value through a sci-fi lens that's more original than your average Netflix thriller. For older teens who loved In Time or Black Mirror, there's meat here.
The bad: a 2.7 on Letterboxd and 55% on Rotten Tomatoes tells you this isn't a hidden gem—it's a decent concept that probably gets preachy, drags in the middle, and doesn't stick the landing. You'll spend two hours thinking 'this could've been so much better.'
It's worth a watch if you're specifically hunting for international sci-fi or need a discussion starter about ethics and economics. But if you're just looking for a good movie? There are better ways to spend your time. (See what I did there?)
