This is what a good picture book looks like. Adam Rex takes a genuinely clever premise—Orange has feelings about not rhyming—and turns it into a funny, warm story about inclusion that doesn't feel like a lesson.
The rhyming is top-notch (obviously important for a book about rhyming), the illustrations are bright and expressive, and it's legitimately entertaining to read aloud. Jon Scieszka's endorsement isn't just blurb fluff—this really does beg to be performed.
It teaches kids to notice when others feel excluded and to problem-solve inclusively, all while building phonemic awareness. The humor works for adults too, which means you won't want to hide it when your kid asks for the 47th read. Solid addition to any home or classroom library.
